Who's Shoes? Jess and Sam
Many clients choose to send us their own horse's or pony's shoes to make a very special gift for themselves or a loved one. When this happen's, we always find the stories about the horse or the person for whom the gift is intended, truly fascinating and thought that you might too. Today we feature Jess and her partner Sam who own a rather special homebred racehorse and wanted us to make them a wooden tray using their horseshoes as handles. Read on to discover more...
Tell us about you
My name is Jess, and I commissioned the horseshoe tray as a birthday present for my fiancé Sam.
Tell us about your horse
The shoes belong to Sam’s racehorse “Strong Glance”, known to us as Edmond. He is an 8-year-old black thoroughbred gelding and Sam bred him in 2013.
We have his mother “Strong Westerner” aka Pippa at home on the farm, alongside her other offspring, including a full brother and a full sister to Edmond (Noah & Ruby) who are too young to race just yet.
Edmond is extremely special. He is Pippa’s first foal and has turned out to be a superstar!
Tell us about Edmond’s racing history
He won his first race (a national hunt flat race) in 2017 and has won 5 races in total.
He ran at both the Cheltenham and Aintree festivals in 2021. We were unable to go to Cheltenham because of COVID-19, but were lucky enough to travel to Aintree to watch him. He’s given us some amazing days out. He is owned by our family syndicate, and everyone loves to go and watch him.
What are your special memories?
In October 2018 he ran at Cheltenham. I was due to have a C-section the day before to deliver our second son. I talked the consultant into letting me delay the operation until after the races so we could all be there to watch. Luckily, he agreed!
Edmond won! The most exciting day ever! A homebred winner at Cheltenham- Sam’s dreams came true that weekend. We were all there shouting him home, thankfully I didn’t go into labour with the excitement! Our son Jack was born 48h later by C-section... and his middle name? Edmond of course!
What makes Edmond so special?
He is a lovely kind sensitive horse and always tries his best.
