- Plant your own fruit and vegetables. Not only will they taste better they won’t have had to travel to reach you.
- Switch your lightbulbs to energy efficient ones.
- When you need to replace your white goods look for energy efficient models, such as tumble dryers that use less electricity or dishwashers that are more economical on water.
- When shopping use some reusable bags rather than plastic bags everytime you shop.
- Avoid buying plastic disposable bottles and instead use a reuseable one.
- When washing clothes in the washing machine use a lower temperature, try washing at 30 degrees instead of 40.
- Turn off lights when you leave the room.
- Try to avoid the car when doing errands and if possible, walk or ride a bike.
- Shop at a local farmers market to support your local community and so you’re your food has travelled less miles to reach you.
- When buying furniture or home accessories see if you can buy upcycled, or goods made from reclaimed items or second hand.
- When drying clothes try to hang them on a washing line rather than using the tumble dryer.
- Unplug appliances, chargers etc when not being used and try not to leave the TV on standby.
- Collect rainwater and use it to water your houseplants and garden.
- Repurpose glass jars as leftover containers and bulk storage, these can be perfect for storing items in the kitchen.
- Donate your unwanted items to your local charity shop. This way you will be avoid adding to the landfill and your items can be used by someone else.
