Ideas for brightening up the garden
Spending time in the garden can be enjoyable and rewarding. It can also be both hard work and relaxing depending on whether you doing one of the many tasks in the garden, or spending a leisurely afternoon planting or reading a good book.
There is always something to be done in the garden. Whilst it is lovely to see all the flowers grow the same cannot be said for weeds and they seem to spring back as soon as you’ve just removed them.
The garden can also be a great place to eat, whether that’s a family meal or entertaining family and friends.
There are so many ways to give a garden a makeover and here are just a few ideas.
Add pots and planters
There are a whole array of pots and planters on the market. From handmade wooden ones that be custom made to fit a particular area in the garden, colourful ceramic ones, terracotta or stone. These can be standalone or group them together. They can be filled with anything from bedding plants to evergreens.
A Window planter can add a lovely cottage feel to the garden and house. They are great for planting herbs that are easily accessible when cooking.
Create a focal point with a mirror. Mirrors can create the illusion of space in a small garden and also brighten a dark, gloomy corner. Mirrors can also look fabulous against wall planters.
Create a sitting room
Create extra living space by adding an outdoor sofa and coffee table. When the weather is dry add cushions and throws to give it a real indoor outdoor feeling.
Makeover a tired bench
An old bench can be revamped with a brand new colour scheme. There are so many different paint colours available, the only difficulty will be choosing one. Add a garden bench to a quiet corner of the garden for rest and relaxation. Add cushions and a seat pad in a pretty fabric such as a rose print.
Add a planter bench
These are not only a practical element to the garden by providing a lovely place to sit and extra seating but can also be filled with pretty flowers. Lavender can look particularly pretty and also provides a beautiful scent when sitting on the planter bench
Paint the shed
Sheds are so handy in the garden for all the gardening tools however if not cared for can make the garden look shabby. Spruce the shed up by painting in a pretty colour such as sage. If the shed has windows pretty curtains can be added to give it a summerhouse look.
,Add a summerhouse, greenhouse or potting shed
Not only are all these garden buildings practical they can also be attractive to look at. Many hours can be lost in the greenhouse growing seeds and if you are looking for a more relaxing time in the garden a summerhouse is perfect.
