How To Create a Christmas Eve Box
Christmas Eve is an exciting time, especially for children as they anticipate the arrival of Father Christmas, and leave out treats for him and his reindeer.
Christmas is also a time to create special memories and traditions with your family, be it young or old. A tradition that Fiona Rose from @thisisfionarose has created for her children is a Christmas Eve Box, and it is something she shares with them each year.
The idea around a Christmas Eve box is that it is filled with items for a cosy family evening and adds a touch of extra magic.
Whilst most people make Christmas Eve boxes for their children, they can be created for the family as a whole, one for each child, or even one for grown ups.
The starting point is the box itself and is usually wooden. A plain box can be purchased from many places, particularly craft shops, and this can either be left undecorated or decorated with a Christmas theme. If you want to buy a ready made one, they can also be purchased decorated from places such as Etsy or Not on The High Street. You don’t have to buy a box though, you may already have something at home that would fit the bill, such as a fruit crate.
The boxes are then filled depending on the recipient of the box, however the general theme of a cosy Christmas Eve is the same.
Ideas for a children’s box
Pyjamas, its always special to wear new PJs for Christmas
A Christmas story book, particularly a classic such as The Night Before Christmas
Treats, such as a chocolate Father Christmas, or golden coins or the child’s particular favourite
A Bobble Hat, to keep wrapped up for winter and the Christmas walks
A Christmas bauble, that the child could hang on the tree before they go to bed. Over years this would turn into a collection that the child could use on their own tree when they are adults.
Ideas for a grown up box
Pyjamas, I don’t think we ever grow out of loving new PJs for Christmas
All the ingredients for an indulgent hot chocolate, with a festive themed mug
A pair of festive fluffy or woollen socks or slippers
A scented candle, particularly a Christmas fragrance
A Christmas Eve box is a lovely tradition and the emphasis is on it being magical not expensive, and add an air of excitement for the arrival of Father Christmas and Christmas Day.
