Tell us about you
My name is Vicky and my husband and I live with our three children in our new build, five bedroom house in Cheshire.
Tell us about your home
Our home is a complete new build, the house was knocked down and re built into a very modern, white rendered three storey home. We moved in just before Christmas in 2020.
How would you describe your home?
I love all things interior and would say that I have a very mixed style in our home. I am very influenced by Scandinavian design but equally love rustic, neutral and modern farmhouse designs.
Which is your favourite room in the house?
I adore our bedroom for it’s calming boudoir feel. It isn’t actually completed yet as we are to finish the walk in wardrobe and media wall, however we are proud of the panelling projects we have achieved ourselves, and I do love the calming neutral colours and different textures.
How does your home reflect any passions or interests?
Our home was a blank canvass to be honest so it has been so exciting to experiment with ideas. I have always had a real love for interiors and that has sparked a love of DIY that my husband and I never knew we had.
What are your favourite items in the home?
I LOVE our four poster bed, it does give the room a real luxurious feel. I also adore our chandelier in the hallway. It is such a huge focal point to the house and gives it that wow factor as you drive up to it. We still can’t work out how to get up there and clean it though!
When you moved into your house was it the finished article or was it a project?
We moved in after three years of development work. Then the interior work started and is ongoing as we speak.
What renovation and decorating have you done?
We have done all of the decorating ourselves. We have panelled, wallpapered, painted and up cycled furniture to fit with the vibe of the house and look forward to more DIY projects this year, starting with a media wall project in our kitchen diner which is the heart of our home.
Have you had any DIY or styling disasters?
It probably wasn’t a disaster but we painted our eldest’s room for it to not turn out too accurately and then he peeled the sticker off ripping half of the paint off. After nine months of decorating we found ourselves decorating again a few weeks ago!
What is your top home styling tip?
Certainly take inspiration from other people but ultimately don’t be afraid to like what you like. I am very much a believer of mixing styles, some things in our house are actually very rustic, which go against the shiny new build model but it’s what I like, especially with our shaker kitchen.
Is there anything in your home that you couldn’t live without?
Our hallway, unsure whether this answers the question properly but the joy I get when I walk into it every time I come home is for real. I love the big open space of it.
They say that every home tells visitors a story about who lives there. What do you think your home says about you?
Our home is a family home with lots of modern character that is still work in progress. It is decorated tastefully with lots of muted tones but has ultra modern twists throughout (like the glass staircase). It’s practical and a very happy home and this is reflected with us as a family of five, with our two cats and two tortoises who also live here.
