At Home With Sophie @thebeltonbarn
This week we are at home with Sophie. The lovely lady behind the popular instagram account @thebeltonbarn where she shares images of her beautiful barn conversion style home in Lincolnshire
Tell us a bit about you
We live in a little village in Lincolnshire. I grew up in the area so when having my own children, it felt natural to want to settle here to be close to family and friends.
Tell us about your home
Our home is actually a fairly new build house, around 15 years old. However, it was built in the style of a barn conversion so has some really lovely features that give it some character!
How would you describe your home?
I honestly don’t know how to answer this question, it’s so difficult to pinpoint an exact style! If anyone has any idea, please let me know! I think it’s pretty modern?
Which is your favourite room in the house?
At the moment it’s definitely our front living room. I spent a lot of time looking at all the different elements including the colours, textures and furniture. I wanted a room that felt serene and peaceful as you entered and I really feel like I achieved that. Anyone that visits always tells me how calming and tranquil the room feels. I love that we have lots of windows in this room too!
How does your home reflect any passions or interests that you have?
I love to cook so our kitchen is certainly the hub of the house! I am also a musician so it has been amazing to have space to rehearse or record.
What are your favourite items in the home?
Not a particular item but I love the windows in this house.
When you moved into your house was it the finished article or was it a project?
It was certainly a house that we could’ve lived in and not changed a thing, however we have totally revamped the entire place with new floors and lots of decorating!
Have you done any renovation or DIY?
My husband and I are absolutely not DIYers in the slightest, so I think the only thing we can say we have successfully done is put together some flat pack furniture!
Have you had any DIY or styling disasters?
I wouldn’t say disaster but certainly something I want to change. I purchased some chandeliers that I decided I didn’t like, and unfortunately I couldn’t return them. So we popped them up in what was our office space as we needed some light in there. We have since turned this into a Cinema room that we use really often, and now have two massive, fancy, dangly chandeliers that I really dislike.
What is your top home styling tip?
When designing a room, think about how you want that room to feel as a whole finished piece and work all of the elements into that theme. It helps me to have a word in mind that encompasses the whole room and I can then make sure everything I choose works cohesively together.
Is there anything in your home that you couldn’t live without?
The dishwasher!
They say that every home tells visitors a story about who lives there. What do you think your home says about you?
That we are a young family with very messy kids ha ha!
The Home Edit
Lived-in look or showhome?
Lived-in
If you could only paint your walls one colour, which one would it be?
The exact colour that my living room walls are, I absolutely love it. I can’t remember the exact name but it is something like “Touch of Nutmeg”
What is your pet hate when it comes to your own or other’s homes?
Chopped cushions – sorry guys I know its everyone’s favourite thing to do!!
Favourite front door colour
Oooh, black.
Carpet or Floorboards
Depends on the room, I do love a really gorgeous, luxury carpet though.

Both (if you have space) for sure.

Can I say neither?!

Wallpaper, but it has to be beautiful!
