At Home With Jenny @rupertandmummy
This week we are at home with Jenny the lovely lady behind the instagram account @rupertandmummy. As a mummy of two little boys, Jenny shares her stories and tips on family, food and fashion, from an old farmhouse in the British countryside
Tell us a bit about you
I’m very lucky to be surrounded by gorgeous boys in my home; my husband, two sons, and our little dachshund. We live in an old farmhouse in the rural Wiltshire countryside.
Tell us about your home
We believe the original part of the house dates to the 1700s, and with a remodel in the 1800s and it was most recently renovated in the mid-1990s.
How would you describe your home?
It is a traditional country home.
Which is your favourite room in the house?
I think it would have to be our master bedroom; my youngest son Henry was born in there so it feels very special for that reason! I love the view, and I find the entire room so restful.
How does your home reflect any passions or interests that you have?
I didn’t think so, but realised recently that I’d unwittingly picked seahorse cushions and sea shell prints for the sitting room so perhaps there is a subconscious longing for the sea! Also, our downstairs loo is a shrine for all of my husband’s old photographs and memorabilia from his time in the army.
What are your favourite items in the home?
I love all of the family photographs that we have dotted everywhere, and the children’s artwork which I have in frames. Our massive sofa in the sitting room is also a favourite, perfect for all of us to snuggle up for a film.
When you moved into your house was it the finished article or was it a project?
We’re renting this house, so it is how it is; if it we owned it there are lots of changes I would make, but of course I’m keeping those ideas for when we finally find our dream forever home.
Have you done any renovation?
As we are renting I’m focused more on art, furniture and soft furnishings that we can take with us than the bare bones of the house; we are so lucky that the house has been renovated so beautifully. I’ve upcycled quite a few pieces of furniture which has been fun; I love the pink bookshelves in our kitchen which add some much needed colour.
Have you had any DIY or styling disasters?
We are struggling with getting a shelf up in the playroom at the moment, the plaster is very old and we need to do some filling and painting!
What is your top home styling tip?
I use Instagram and Pinterest a lot for ideas, and love watching the videos on House & Garden’s website for glimpse into homes which inspire me.
Is there anything in your home that you couldn’t live without?
I used to be very sentimental about possessions but I‘ve realised over time and many house moves that almost everything is replaceable really. Thank goodness all my photos are digitalised and on iCloud so those precious memories can be accessed no matter what. Maybe a massive crate of the boys’ drawings, which would be irreplaceable! I really do need to do organise those a bit better!
They say that every home tells visitors a story about who lives there. What do you think your home says about you?
I hope that it feels like a family home, full of love and happy memories.
The Home Edit

If you could only paint your walls one colour, which one would it be?

Mess!

I’d LOVE a pink front door.
