Tell us a bit about you
My name is Helen and I live at My Converted Cottage with my husband Andrew and my Cocker Spaniel, Poppy.
I recently moved here from My Converted School House to the Cheshire area to live closer to my family and friends. The Cottage does need quite a bit of work doing to it and I will be sharing my renovation journey on my Instagram account.
Tell us about your home
The cottage was built in around 1890 and has had some renovation work done to it but it does need a complete makeover. We have put plans in for an extension and I am waiting for planning permission. We would like to add a boot/utility room, an office, dining room and to create 3 double bedrooms upstairs with the master bedroom having an en-suite.
How would you describe your home?
I love a mixture of styles, traditional but with a contemporary feel. I tend to just go with what I like.
Which is your favourite room in the house?
My favourite room has to be the lounge at the rear of the house, we recently had a log burner installed in here and I love that the room overlooks the garden. The rest of the house is awful at the moment!
How does your home reflect any passions or interests?
My main interests are interiors and interior design and I also love styling my home.
What are your favourite items in the home?
My favourite items are definitely my log burner and my furniture and accessories, most of my furniture is from Neptune.
When you moved into your house was it the finished article or was it a project?
This house is definitely not the finished article, it needs such a lot of work doing to it, I think it’s going to be a big job!
What renovation and decorating have you done?
We have painted the kitchen and installed the log burner; we are planning on having the bathroom replaced soon and a new patio built in the garden. I am hopeless at DIY I certainly haven’t learnt any skills!
Have you had any DIY or styling disasters?
I wouldn’t attempt any DIY and I am always careful with my choices. I do lots of research before I start anything in the house.
What is your top home styling tip?
Go with what you like and be true to your own style.
Is there anything in your home that you couldn’t live without?
It has to be my log burner, its fabulous!
They say that every home tells visitors a story about who lives there. What do you think your home says about you?
Well at the minute I am not really sure I like the story the house portrays! Eventually I am hoping once I put my stamp on it, it will reflect my style and taste.
What drew you to this house and what prompted you to move?
We wanted to downsize, but the main reason is definitely location, location, location!
