At Home With Hayley @mumwife_cotswoldlife
This week I'm at home with Hayley, the very creative lady behind the popular instagram account @mumwife_cotswoldlife where she shares beautiful images of her wonderful home. Read on to learn more about Hayley, her home, lifestyle, family and her top tip for home decor.
Tell us about you
My name is Hayley. I recently moved to Wiltshire with my husband and two children from Windsor. We have all settled in really well and have enjoyed exploring the wonderful Cotswolds around us.
Tell us about your home
Our home is a Cotswold stone 4 bed detached home in a very small town. The town had a population of around 5000 so there’s a strong community feel which is lovely.
The house is a brand new build finished in December 2020 and we moved in January 2021. It’s on a new development of 70 houses built onto the end of the original town surrounded by fields.
How would you describe your home?
We are quite lucky to be able to move into a home with a clean, blank canvas. I am trying to go with a traditional, country style decor.
Which is your favourite room in the house?
We recently decorated the utility room so I would say this is my favourite room at the moment. I love that a bit of character has been added by using tongue and groove panels.
How does your home reflect any passions or interests?
I love styling and interior design. I think my home reflects that I have a place for everything and I’ve really thought about what I want in the house and where I want it to go.
What are your favourite items in the home?
I love the unit we have underneath the TV. It was a great Ikea buy. I also have a really big statement vase from Neptune which is great for changing large bouquets and making the room look as if it’s styled for the season.
What renovation and decorating have you done?
We have learnt so much in regard to DIY since moving here. We’ve added panelling in different rooms, put up shelves and tiled a backsplash.
Have you had any DIY or styling disasters?
We haven’t really had any DIY disasters but I would say there’s been a lot of holes put in the walls that we’ve had to fill. One styling disaster was the builders putting carpet in our hallway which we will hopefully sort out at the end of this year.
What is your top home styling tip?
My best home styling tip would be to take your time and really think about what you want in the room. Vases with faux flowers make lovely statements and fill a room nicely. Use things to create different eye levels of interest.
Is there anything in your home that you couldn’t live without?
There’s lots of things I couldn’t live without in this house but I do often wonder how we ever managed without a garage. There is so much stored in there now it’s unreal!
They say that every home tells visitors a story about who lives there. What do you think your home says about you?
I hope when visitors come our home says to them that we are a welcoming family home. Organised but also relaxed.
The Home Edit
Lived-in or showhome?
I actually like a mixture of both.
If you could only paint your walls one colour, which one would it be?
Farrow and Ball Jitney
What is your pet hate when it comes to your own or other’s homes?
I don’t really have any. I’m very easy going.
Favourite front door colour?
I absolutely love pink front doors.
Carpet or Floorboards?
Again I like a mixture of both. If I had to choose one it would be floorboards.
Kitchen table dining or formal dining room?
Kitchen table dining.
High gloss or rustic?
Wallpaper or Brick Walls?
