At Home With Charlotte @lottieshousebuild

This week we are at home with the lovely Charlotte. Mum of three and the  lady behind the very popular instagram account @lottieshousebuild where she shares images of her fabulous newly built country house. Charlotte's home is stunning. We love her mix of contemporary and country style home decor and furnishings.

Tell us a bit about you

I live in a village in Hertfordshire, its full of woodlands and open spaces which is amazing. I have the best of both worlds though as it has great train links and near the motorway.

Tell us about your home

The house was originally a 2 bedroom 1950’s house.  It had no redeeming features though so I knocked it down and started again.

How would you describe your home?

My style is modern country I would say! I love the combination of modern features mixed with rustic barn styling and country features.

Which is your favourite room in the house?

Although I love my kitchen diner I love the pantry, this space allows me to have all the unsightly small appliances out of my kitchen leaving it looking simpler and tidy.

How does your home reflect any passions or interests that you have?

I love walking my dogs so having a boot room feels practical but also luxurious at the same time.

What are your favourite items in the home?

I love my reclaimed dining table, it’s been with me in my last 3 houses now and its marked over the years but it feels like home.

When you moved into your house was it the finished article or was it a project?

The house was meant to be finished when I moved in but finances have now meant it’s an ongoing project.

Have you done any DIY?

I have to admit whilst I have vision of what I want to achieve in a house I’m not very skilled at doing it myself.

Have you had any DIY or styling disasters?

I don’t think I have actually.  I very much know what I do and don’t like. The only thing I don’t like is my glass balustrade on the stairs, for some reason I let my architect talk me in to having them and I wish I had stuck to my original vision.

What is your top home styling tip?

I think mood boards and Pinterest are great for helping create ideas and seeing what sort of look you want to create.

Is there anything in your home that you couldn’t live without?

My 3 gorgeous boys.

They say that every home tells visitors a story about who lives there. What do you think your home says about you?

I think my house is very much a well loved family home and hope that it shows whilst looking stylish at the same time.

The Home Edit

Lived-in look or showhome?

Lived in.

If you could only paint your walls one colour, which one would it be?

Most my house has been painted in Little Greene French grey.

What is your pet hate when it comes to your own or other’s homes?

I don’t really have one as everyone has such individual taste and styles

Favourite front door colour?

Farrow and ball French Grey .

Carpet or Floorboards?

Floorboards most definitely - must be practical with 3 boys and 2 dogs.

Kitchen table dining or formal dining room?

I’ve never had a dining room and don’t think I ever will.  It is all about lots of people gathered in the kitchen eating and drinking together, this could be from my Spanish side of the family.

High gloss or rustic?

Rustic always, I’m not a glossy person

Wallpaper or Brick Walls?

Brick walls look at my kitchen!
