Read on to learn more about Charlotte, her home, lifestyle, and top tips for home styling.
Tell us about you
We live in an old Farmhouse in North Yorkshire. We are close to the beautiful City of York and are surrounded by beautiful, quaint little villages. We have lived here for nearly 7 years now and have slowly renovated our home room by room. We both live very close to our families and we both grew up in the area. My children go to the same primary school that I went to.
Tell us about your home
I only discovered recently that our home is of Edwardian era. It has high ceilings, old fireplaces openings in most rooms and a beautiful original stairway.
How would you describe your home?
I definitely do everything that I can to style my home traditionally so that it is in keeping with its age. I do like to throw in a bit of country styling in too.
Which is your favourite room in the house?
I would have to say my youngest son Ted’s bedroom is my favourite room. I love the wall colour which is Farrow and Ball Vert de Terre, I love the antique pine furniture in there and all his little knick-knacks. I bought a lot of things from a traditional sweetie shop that closed down so he has a shelf unit with all the sweetie names still on it and old sweetie jars and boxes. It just makes his room so original. Yes, definitely my favourite room, although the kitchen is a very close second.
How does your home reflect any passions or interests?
My husband and I are both from very horsey background’s so we have quite a few drawings of horses around the house. They hold a lot of sentimental value as my husband’s late granddad was a racehorse trainer and they are drawings of special horses that he once owned.
What are your favourite items in the home?
My favourite items are again, definitely the sentimental ones. We have a beautiful wicker back chair in our bedroom, which also belonged to my husband’s granddad. We had it re covered and it is just beautiful as well as holding fond memories.
When you moved into your house was it the finished article or was it a project?
Our house needed completely renovating from start to finish so has been a huge project that is still ongoing.
What renovation and decorating have you done?
We have knocked through three walls and a huge chimney breast. Every room has had to be taken right back to brick so from the point of insulation onwards. We have had workmen in to do the majority of the work so I wouldn’t say we have learnt skills as such but we have certainly had to learn the skill of patience.
Have you had any DIY or styling disasters?
My poor dad has been roped in to re paint our front door three times before I was finally happy with the colour.
What is your top home styling tip?
Always have plenty of flowers in the house, they complete any form of styling in my opinion.
Is there anything in your home that you couldn’t live without?
I’d have to say my log burners, there is nothing worse than a cold house. People are forever telling me it’s like a sauna in our home. ha!
They say that every home tells visitors a story about who lives there. What do you think your home says about you?
This is a tricky one. I’d say it show’s a chaotic but comfortable family home where everyone is welcome. People do tend to feel at home here. Not sure if that’s a good or bad thing.
